Terms of use

Last updated 18 September 2026. These are the rules for using Sigil, written in plain words.

1. Using Sigil

By signing in or using Sigil you agree to these terms and to our Privacy page. If you don't agree, please don't use the site. You must be old enough to use Discord where you live (at least 13, and older in some countries).

2. Your account

You sign in with your Discord account. You're responsible for what happens on your Sigil profile. Don't let anyone else use it, and don't sign in as someone else. If your Discord account is closed or changes, your Sigil profile may be affected.

3. Your content

Your profile, pictures, backgrounds, song choices and everything else you add are yours. By adding them you give Sigil permission to store them and show them on the site as you arranged them, for as long as you keep them here. That permission ends when you remove them, apart from short-lived backups. You promise that you have the right to share what you add, and that it doesn't break anyone else's rights or the rules below.

Your profile is public. Anyone with the link can see it, including your pictures and, if you add a Friends box, your friends list. Only add things you're happy for the world to see.

4. What you must not post

Do not put any of the following on Sigil, in pictures, backgrounds, names, bios, text boxes or anything else:

  • Nudity, sexual or pornographic content.
  • Anything sexual involving a child, or that puts a child at risk. This is reported to the authorities.
  • Harassment, bullying, threats or content meant to hurt or scare a person.
  • Hateful content aimed at people because of who they are.
  • Graphic violence, gore, or content that promotes self-harm.
  • Other people's private information (such as addresses or phone numbers) without their permission.
  • Illegal content, or content that helps someone break the law.
  • Spam, scams, phishing, malware, or attempts to break or misuse the site or other people's accounts.
  • Pretending to be another person or organization to mislead people.
  • Content that infringes someone's copyright or other rights.

5. Reports and moderation

Anyone signed in can report a picture or a profile. Moderators review reports and may remove a picture, an avatar or a background, clear the words on a profile, stop an account from uploading pictures, or close an account, with or without warning. We aren't able to check everything before it goes up, so we don't promise to catch everything. If you think a decision was a mistake, contact us using the address below.

6. Friends

You can send friend requests to other people and accept or decline theirs. Use this kindly. Repeated unwanted requests may be treated as harassment.

7. Premium features

Some features (custom fonts, picture backgrounds, animated GIFs, saving several card layouts as presets, entrance cards, signature emoji, a voice channel on /lfg groups, a detailed /matchme breakdown and showing a card as a picture with /profile) are for Premium accounts. When buying is open, Premium is a monthly subscription: the price is shown on your Premium page and again at checkout before you pay, together with any taxes that apply. We may change, add or remove features at any time, and we may switch a feature off for everyone for a while.

Paying and cancelling. Payments are handled by Stripe, on Stripe's own page: Sigil never sees or stores your card details. A subscription renews every month until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your Premium page (Manage subscription); you then keep Premium until the end of the period you have already paid for, and you are not charged again. If something goes wrong with a payment, contact us and we will look into it. Nothing in this section limits any rights you have by law.

Changing your mind (14 days). If you are a consumer in the EU, the law usually gives you 14 days after buying a digital service to withdraw. Premium starts as soon as you pay, so before you pay we ask you to tick a box on your Premium page to say you want it to start straight away. If you then withdraw within those 14 days, we refund what you paid minus an amount for the time you have already had Premium, worked out in proportion to the month. To withdraw, contact us. Nothing here limits any rights you have by law.

Free trials and gifts. We may offer free trials, or give Premium for a limited time. A trial or gift asks for no payment details, ends by itself on the date shown on your Premium page, and is not charged for. When it ends you go back to the free plan; your designs and choices are kept and work again if you get Premium later. Each free trial can be started once per person, and not while you already have Premium. We can end a trial or gift early if it was obtained by misusing the service.

8. Other companies' services

Sigil works with Discord, and profiles can show players from Spotify, YouTube, Apple Music and SoundCloud. Those companies' own terms and privacy rules apply when you use their services, and we don't control them.

9. The site as it is

Sigil is provided "as is". We work to keep it running and your data safe, but we can't promise it will always be available, error-free or that nothing will ever be lost. Keep your own copy of anything important, such as your pictures. To the extent the law allows, we aren't responsible for losses that come from using or being unable to use the site.

10. Ending things

You can stop using Sigil at any time, and you can remove your pictures and empty your card yourself. To have your whole profile deleted, contact us. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms or harm others or the site.

11. Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top says when they last changed, and using Sigil after a change means you accept it.
