Role menus: let members pick their own roles

A role menu is a message where members choose their own roles, like reaction roles but with buttons, a dropdown or a private pick-list. Sigil's builder is a roomy page with a live preview, so you see the menu before you post it.

What it does

  • Choose the roles, and how many a member can hold: as many as they like, just one, or up to a number you set.
  • Set the title, words, colour, pictures, footer and extra sections, then post the menu in any channel.
  • Make roles temporary, so they take themselves off after a while.
  • Limit a menu to members who already have a role, for example Verified.
  • Add a Sigil card button that gives people the roles that match what is on their own Sigil profile card (a Valorant role for someone who has Valorant on their card).

Set it up

  1. Add Sigil to your server, give it the Manage Roles permission, and run /setup.
  2. Run /rolemenu create. It takes you to the role menu builder on the Sigil website.
  3. Pick the roles, style the menu and check it in the live preview.
  4. Post it in a channel. To change a menu later, right-click it, choose Apps, then Sigil: Edit role menu.

Good to know

  • For safety a menu never hands out a role that has Administrator or any Manage permission, or one above the bot's own role, and this is checked again every time someone presses.
  • /rolemenu list shows your menus and whether each one is healthy.
  • Want roles handed out to new members automatically? /autorole does that, with an optional wait and rules screening.
  • Role menus are for people who manage roles.

Commands

  • /rolemenu create|list for people who manage the server
  • /autorole for people who manage the server
