A welcome message bot with a live preview

/welcome opens a private builder where you design the message posted when someone joins your server, and see exactly how it will look as you go. Start from a preset or build your own.

What it does

  • Change the text above the card and the card itself: title, words, colour, a small picture, a big picture, author and footer.
  • Fill in each new member's details with variables like {user}, {name}, {server}, {count} and {ordinal}.
  • Start from a preset: Classic, Friendly, Minimal, Rules first, Gamer or Cosy.
  • Add up to two link buttons (for your rules, say), and keep or drop the Wave button.
  • Choose whether the new member is pinged, ping up to three roles, have the message remove itself after a while, and also send the new member a private message.
  • /goodbye does the same for when someone leaves. It is off until you turn it on.

Set it up

  1. Add Sigil to your server and run /setup.
  2. Run /welcome and pick a preset, or start from scratch.
  3. Edit the words and card, and watch the preview change.
  4. Choose the channel, turn it on, and send yourself a test.

Good to know

  • Sigil only uses who joined (their name and picture), never what anyone writes.
  • A card can't notify anybody, so role pings go in the text above the card.
  • The goodbye message is posted whenever Discord tells the bot someone is gone, which includes people who were kicked or banned. It never pings anyone.
  • Only people who manage the server can open the builder, and only they see it.

Commands

  • /welcome for people who manage the server
  • /goodbye for people who manage the server
  • /setup [channel] [cards] [reactions] [welcome] [confess] for people who manage the server

Every command, with what it does and what it needs, is in the guide.
