An auto thread bot: a thread under every post

/autothread makes every message posted in a channel start its own thread, which suits suggestion, showcase and question channels. Threads are named from the author and the date.

What it does

  • Name the threads your own way, with {author} where the person's name goes and {date} for the day. The default is "{author}'s thread".
  • Choose how long an idle thread stays open before it tucks itself away: 1 hour, 1 day (the default), 3 days or 1 week.
  • Messages from bots are not threaded.
  • Turn it off again with the Off mode.

Set it up

  1. Add Sigil to your server and run /setup.
  2. In the channel, run /autothread and choose On.
  3. Optionally set the thread name and how long threads stay open.

Good to know

  • Sigil never reads what people write for this. It only sees that a message was posted.
  • The bot needs the Create Public Threads and Send Messages in Threads permissions in the channel.
  • For a channel of pictures, /mediaonly can keep it to pictures and videos, with a thread for every picture.

Commands

  • /autothread mode [name] [archive] for people who manage the server
  • /mediaonly mode [replies] [per_member] [chat] for people who manage the server

Every command, with what it does and what it needs, is in the guide.
