Auto-roles
Give new members and new bots the right roles by themselves, straight away or after a delay.
Auto-roles give a role to everyone who joins, so a moderator does not have to. They are off until you turn them on.
Setting it up
Run /autorole (you need Manage Roles), or open the Auto roles tab of the dashboard. A private panel lets you choose:
- Roles for new members: up to five.
- Roles for new bots: up to three.
- When: straight away, or after a minute, ten minutes or an hour. A short delay is a simple guard against a raid.
- Rules screening: whether to wait until the member has passed your server's rules screening.
What Sigil needs
Sigil needs the Manage Roles permission, and its own role has to sit above the roles it gives. It also needs to be told about members joining; see Permissions.
What it will never give
Even if you choose it, Sigil will not hand out:
- a role that carries Administrator or any Manage permission,
- a role that belongs to a bot or an integration,
- a role above Sigil's own highest role.
You can only choose roles below your own highest role, unless you own the server. All of this is checked again every time a role is about to be given, because roles change.
What Sigil keeps
The roles you chose, and for someone who has to wait, their name in a short queue until they get the roles (or leave, or a week passes). It only uses the fact that someone joined.
Tips
- Put a "Member" role here and let role menus handle everything optional.
- If you ask people to read your rules first, tick the screening option so the role arrives when they accept.
