Counters and the Bulletin

Live numbers in your channel list, and a sign at the top that rotates through who joined, who is online and whose birthday it is.

Two ways to make the top of your channel list feel alive. Both work by renaming a locked voice channel, so members see them every time they open the server.

Counters

/counters add stat makes a locked voice channel (inside a Server stats category) that shows a live number, like Members: 1,234. Sigil keeps the number up to date about every ten minutes.

You can count:

  • members
  • users (people only, bots left out)
  • bots
  • online members
  • boosts
  • the boost level
  • roles, channels or emojis

Give a counter your own wording with name, putting {count} where the number goes: Adventurers: {count}.

/counters list shows what is set up and /counters remove stat deletes one. Sigil needs Manage Channels.

Discord only tells Sigil how many boosts a server has, not who boosted, so the boosters counter counts boosts.

The Bulletin

/bulletin makes a locked voice channel at the top of your channel list that works as a live sign. Its name changes about every five minutes, showing one thing at a time:

  • the newest member (New member: Mira)
  • the member count and how many joined today
  • who is online
  • messages today, the busiest channel and the peak hour (these use the server's analytics, so they only appear while those are on)
  • people in voice
  • boosts
  • whose birthday it is
  • milestones: 1,000 members, a new boost level, the server's anniversary or an online record (a milestone is shown for a day)

Names are shown unless you run /bulletin names:False, which shows counts instead. Run /bulletin again to see it or change that setting, and /bulletin off to delete the channel. Sigil needs Manage Channels.

Make it look like yours

Open the Bulletin and counters tab of your dashboard and choose how the channel names are written. A live preview shows the result as you pick. What you choose is used by the Bulletin and by every counter.

  • Frame (free): a decoration either side of the name, like 「 Members: 1,204 」 or ★ Members: 1,204 ★.
  • Font (Server Supporter): Discord does not allow a real font in a channel name, but it does allow letters that look like one. Sigil can write the names in bold, italic, script, fraktur, double-struck, circled, squared, small capitals and more. Only letters and digits are changed; emoji and other alphabets are left as they are. Anyone can try a font in the preview.
  • Which lines show (free): untick any line of the Bulletin you do not want, like the peak hour or the boosts. At least one has to stay on.
  • Your own wording (Server Supporter): say it your way. Put the name of a number in curly brackets where it should go, for example {count} of us instead of 1,204 members. Each line has its own names (the editor lists them), at most 40 characters are allowed, and a line that has to be shorter to fit in the channel list is cut short with an ellipsis. If a number has nothing to say that day, like {change} when nobody joined or left, the usual words are used instead.

The channel list shows about 24 characters of the Bulletin, and a frame uses some of them, so a short line reads best.

If the server's Server Supporter plan ends, nothing is lost: the Bulletin and counters go back to the plain font and the usual words, and your font and wording come back as soon as the plan does. The frame and the lines you switched off carry on either way.

Birthdays

Members run /birthday set month day to save their birthday. The year is optional and is never shown, not even as an age. On the day, any server they are in that has a Bulletin and shows names can name them in it; nobody else sees their birthday. /birthday clear removes it everywhere and /birthday show tells you what is saved. It follows the time zone set with /remind timezone (UTC if none is set), and works anywhere, including private chats.

Tips

  • Keep counters to the two or three numbers you actually care about. A long list of locked channels looks like clutter.
  • Put the Bulletin's wording to work: with names on, it is the friendliest way to greet your newest member.
