Media-only channels and purge
Keep an art or selfie channel to pictures, with the chat elsewhere, and clear out a pile of messages in one go.
Media-only channels
For an art, selfie or clips channel where conversation belongs somewhere else. Use /mediaonly in the channel (you need Manage Server) and choose how it works.
| Mode | What happens |
|---|---|
| Pictures only | Anything that is not a picture, video, GIF, sound or sticker is removed, with a short note that disappears by itself. |
| Pictures with a few replies | A text reply to a picture is allowed, but only replies of them per picture (3 if you leave it out), and only per_member from one person (2). That is a compliment or two, not a conversation. Anything that is not a reply to a picture is removed. |
| A thread for every picture | Each picture gets its own thread for the conversation, and text in the channel itself is removed. |
| Off | A normal channel again. |
chat can name a channel to send people to.
- People who can manage messages are never touched.
- A GIF link is given a couple of seconds to show its preview before it is judged.
- Sigil needs Manage Messages in the channel (and Create Public Threads for threads).
- It only checks whether a message has a picture, video, sticker or link preview, and whether it replies to one.
Discord only shows uploads and link previews to a bot that has its Message Content setting, so this command only works while that is switched on for Sigil, and it tells you when it is not.
Purge
/purge amount deletes the latest messages in the channel you use it in (1 to 100). It is for people who can Manage Messages, and Sigil needs that permission, and Read Message History, in the channel too.
| Option | Effect |
|---|---|
user |
Delete only that person's messages. |
only |
Everyone, only bots or only people. |
include_pinned |
Also delete pinned messages. They are kept otherwise. |
Discord only lets a bot bulk-delete messages from the last two weeks, so older ones are left. A big purge (more than 30) asks you to confirm first because it cannot be undone. Only you see the answer.
