Colour roles
Let members colour their own name, with a preview on Discord's dark and light looks before they commit.
/colour lets a member give their name a colour in your server, and see how it will look before they wear it.
For members
/colour on its own opens a private picker:
- a wall of named colours in ready-made palettes: Balanced (colours that read well on both of Discord's looks), Pastel, Vivid, Earth, Neon, Sky and sea, and Sigil's own,
- a colour taken from your avatar or your Sigil profile,
- or a surprise.
Type a name (coral, sea glass) or a code (#F97316) and you get a preview of your name in that colour on Discord's dark and light looks side by side, with how easy it is to read on each. If it would be hard to read, one button lightens it for you. Pressing the button to wear it gives you a colour role and takes your old colour off.
/colours posts the server's colour wall in the channel, with how many people wear each colour.
For admins
Run /colourroles (you need Manage Roles) or open Colour roles on the dashboard. You can:
- choose which palettes members can use (and see which coloured roles sit above Sigil's own role and so still win the name colour: only moving Sigil's role higher in Server Settings, Roles fixes that),
- add colours of your own,
- allow typed colours, or only the palettes' colours,
- limit how many colour roles the server can end up with,
- choose the role the colour roles sit under,
- limit
/colourto members who have a certain role, - delete unused colour roles now,
- post a colour wall with a Choose your colour button that anyone can press.
How it works
The colour roles Sigil creates have no permissions at all, are not shown separately in the member list and cannot be mentioned. A colour role that nobody wears any more is deleted about an hour later. Sigil remembers which colour each person wears in each server, and only that.
Sigil needs Manage Roles, with its own role above where the colour roles go.
