Pulse Check

Post a message, and ping a role, when a channel has been quiet for as long as you choose.

3 min read · Updated 13 October 2026

A Pulse Check watches one channel. When nobody has written there for as long as you choose, Sigil posts a message and can ping a role to wake the chat up. It is like /schedule, but it goes by silence instead of the clock. It is for people who manage the server.

Sigil APP
@Night owls It's been quiet in #general for 2 hours. What is everyone up to?
A Pulse Check after two quiet hours, pinging a role.
/pulsecheck add quiet:2h message:"Chat's quiet, what is everyone up to?" ping:@Night owls from:9am until:11pm

How it works

  • It posts once per quiet stretch. After it has spoken it waits until somebody writes and the channel goes quiet again, so it never stacks pings on a dead chat.
  • Only people count. A message from a person is chat. Bots, webhooks and Sigil's own message are not.
  • It only posts in the hours you allow. The quiet time is counted from when those hours begin, so a silent night never means a ping the moment the morning starts.
  • It pings one role at most, and never @everyone or a person.
  • After Sigil restarts, each watched channel starts counting its quiet time again from that moment.

The options

Option What it does
quiet How long the channel must be silent: 2h, 90m, 1d or 2h30m. From 30 minutes up to 7 days.
message What Sigil says. A friendly message is used if you leave it out.
channel The channel to watch and post in (the one you are in if you leave it out).
ping A role to mention with the message.
from and until The hours it may post in, like 9am and 11pm (09:00 to 23:00 if you leave them out). The same time for both means any time of day.

The hours are on the server's own clock: the time zone you set with /schedule timezone (or on the Scheduled posts tab of the dashboard), else UTC.

Looking after your checks

Command What it does
/pulsecheck list Shows the server's Pulse Checks.
/pulsecheck edit id Changes only what you fill in (type clear_ping to stop mentioning a role).
/pulsecheck pause id Holds one back without deleting it. When you resume it, the quiet time starts from that moment.
/pulsecheck resume id Lets a paused one work again.
/pulsecheck remove id Deletes one.

The dashboard's Pulse Check tab does the same with a live preview of the message.

Limits

One Pulse Check per channel. A free server can have 1 and a server with Ember for servers can have 5 (see Plans). Sigil needs to see the channel and be allowed to post in it. If it can't post several times in a row, it removes the check and tells the person who made it.
